Not really goodbye, and thank you!

Hello Benzie Central Community!

As you may have heard, I have accepted a new position to be the Assistant Superintendent of Professional Learning and Innovation with the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District (TBAISD).  This position came up, as opportunities often do, in an unexpected fashion.  Part of the allure of this position was the fact that it would still allow me to both remain a Benzie Central resident AND also continue to support Benzie Central, albeit in a new fashion.  I'll be supporting all sixteen districts in the five-county region, including Benzie.

So while I'll be stepping aside as superintendent of Benzie Central, I'm not saying goodbye.  Rather, I'll be around in a new way.  Our parents are some of our most ardent supporters, and I look forward to joining, as a dad, with other active and supportive parents to help our schools continue to grow and prosper.

I want to sincerely and profoundly thank the Benzie Central staff as well as the Board of Education for placing their faith and trust in me to lead this district four years ago.  I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together.  I have always believed that the goal of any good leader should be to try to leave the organization better off.  By virtually every measure, I can honestly say that we have accomplished that.  It's been a team effort, and this is an amazing team to have been a part of.

I also want to thank our parents, our students, and our community.  It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your superintendent of schools and I know that you will continue to show my successor the same enthusiasm and support that you have shown me.

Finally - I'd like to thank all of you who have taken the time to show me personal support in the midst of this transition.  So many have called, texted, messaged, or otherwise reached out.  The kindness and encouragement you have shown have been overwhelming.

As I noted above - this is not goodbye.  I look forward to helping with the transition and have every intention to ensure that this summer is well spent ensuring we are prepared for the challenges ahead.  I will be working with the Board as they seek a new leader, and with our leadership team as they prepare for the next school year.  Whatever the challenges, rest assured that they will be met and that Benzie Central will continue on the positive path that we have set on, assuring our kids a bright future!

Thank you - and GO HUSKIES!!!
